On 28-30 March 2012 the 14th International Trade Fair of Analytical, Measurement and Control Technology "Eurolab" took place in Warsaw.
“EuroLab” fairs are a specialized event of business and science, addressed to the laboratory industry, which are established resulting in substantive cooperation of research centers from across the Poland. The event is a place to promote the latest solutions and technologies designed for laboratories, as well as an irreplaceable source of information and opinion on the latest methods and research techniques. A perfect combination of science and business makes that to the fair come both contractors wishing to establish business contacts, as well as representatives of science interested in market novelties and learning. Conducted at a high level seminars, conferences and lectures by eminent experts from industry accompanied each edition of the event.
Once again, the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology was present on the fair. At this year the institute presented the following topics:
On 14th March 2012 the meeting of the Warsaw branch of the Polish Radiation Research Society (PTBR) took place in the seminar room of the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology in Warsaw. The meeting started with warm welcome by Prof. Andrzej G. Chmielewski, the Director of the Institute, and Prof. Marek Janiak on behalf of the PTBR. The meeting was honored by the lecture ‘Mechanisms of Cellular Radiation Hormesis’ given by Prof. Irena Szumiel, a member of PTBR and former head of the Department of Radiobiology and Health Protection. The lecture addressed important issues on radiation hormesis and the human response to low doses of ionizing radiation. This perfectly fits the recent work conducted at the Center for Radiobiology and Biological Dosimetry and the activities of IChTJ aimed at creating a Technical and Scientific Support Organization to support the developing nuclear power industry in Poland. At the end of the meeting Prof. Chmielewski congratulated and put flowers in hands of Prof. Szumiel on the occasion of her decoration with the Officer's Cross of the Polish Revival by President Bronislaw Komorowski (link - in polish only).
The polish studies in the field of chemistry have been widely recognized in the world. The best research centers (universities, institutes of Polish Academy of Sciences, and research institutes) in the country conducting studies in this area are located in Mazovia.
Faculty of Chemistry (Warsaw University of Technology), Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering (Warsaw University of Technology), Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering (Warsaw University of Technology), Faculty of Chemistry (University of Warsaw), Department of Chemistry and New Technologies (Military University of Technology), Institute of Physical Chemistry (Polish Academy of Sciences), Institute of Organic Chemistry (Polish Academy of Sciences), Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology, Industrial Chemistry Research Institute, Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Research Institute took the initiative to create a research structure called Mazovian Valley of Green Chemistry. It will allow to consolidate operations and link structure of research units located in the Central Vistula Valley. This will create added value for the development of didactics, science and innovation activities for industry.
On 11th February 2012 in the seminar room of the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology in Warsaw took place the meeting of the representatives of national associations of European Young Generation (part of European Nuclear Society - Young Generation Network ENS-YGN). The meeting was organized by M.Sc. Eng. Brykala Marcin (President of the Polish Young Generation part of the Polish Nuclear Society), M.Sc. Eng. Tomasz Smolinski (vice president of PYG), and PhD. Eng. Kinga Frackiewicz (former president of PYG).
Behalf of INCT, Prof. Andrzej G. Chmielewski, Ph.D., D.Sc. the Director of the Institute officially welcomed participants. Behalf of the Polish Nuclear Society (PNS) Secretary General PhD. Eng. Wojciech Głuszewski welcomed participants. The meeting was graced by presence of the President of European Nuclear Society - Dr. Marco Streit.
It is with great pleasure to announce that from 1 January 2012 the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology is the publisher of the quarterly journal – "Progress in Nuclear Technology". The current publisher – the National Atomic Energy Agency asked and agreed to take over publisher duties by the INCT and the acquisition of rights to the title. As we know, the NAEA is currently engaged in the task of adapting the Agency to act as a nuclear regulatory authority, which means that it should not be a publisher of the journal, which promote nuclear energy.
Dr. Stanislaw Latek stays the PNT editor in chief, while the editorial office is transferred to the Institute.
On November 22-25, POLEKO’ 2011 International Trade Fair of Environmental Protection was held once again in Poznań.
This year's POLEKO and KOMTECHNIKA occupied a total area of about 17.000 m2, gathered 700 exhibitors and companies from 19 countries: Austria, Belgium, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Spain, Holland, Canada, Germany, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, Ukraine, Great Britain, Italy and the USA.
Leading topic of this year's fair is "Resource Efficiency - efficient use of resources".
The 10th meeting of the Ionizing Radiation and Polymers symposium, IRaP’2012 will be held 14th-19th October, 2012, in Cracow, Poland. IRAP’2012 is organized jointly by the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology, Radiation Research Foundation and Institute of Applied Radiation Chemistry (Łódź).
The IRaP'2012 meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to meet and discuss the developments both in the basic science in the field of radiation chemistry and physics of polymeric systems and in the area of applications of ionizing radiation in polymer chemistry and physics, new trends and ideas in radiation processing of polymers, emerging technologies and products. These topics will be addressed by international experts from academia and industry.
An International Coordination Meeting on Radiation Engineered Nanostructures organized within the framework of regional programme RER/8/014 – Supporting Radiation Synthesis and the Characterization of Nanomaterials for Health Care, Environmental Protection and Clean Energy applications was held in Warszawa, Poland in the period 16-18 November 2011. It was coordinated by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. The Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (INCT) in Warszawa was obliged to organize this meeting for the participants of the above programme.
The ART foundation was author and organizer of the project.
The program is co-funded by the Capital City of Warsaw – the Office of Education.
Partners: The Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology, The Polish Chemical Society and The Museum of Maria Skłodowska - Curie.
As a partner the INCT gave substantive and technical support in project implementation, which was created to celebrate the year of Maria Skłodowska- Curie.
Warsaw, September / October 2011-At this time the project named „Following the steps of Maria Skłodowska Curie” took place on the streets of Warsaw. The project was destined to the children from classes IV – VI of the primary schools and its main purpose was to encourage children to independence in searching of information and knowledge...
The Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (INCT) operates and maintains the only radiation facility in the country. The said facility is equipped with an accelerator Electronika 1010. This facility is certified in designing and performing radiation processing of medical devices in compliance with PN-EN ISO 13485:2005 standard. Currently, it serves more than 50 companies. Most of which are manufactures of medical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics products.
