Warsaw, September / October 2011-At this time the project named „Following the steps of Maria Skłodowska Curie” took place on the streets of Warsaw. The project was destined to the children from classes IV – VI of the primary schools and its main purpose was to encourage children to independence in searching of information and knowledge in the science of radiation as well as getting information about life and work of Polish greatest scientist. During the realization of a the project we have tried to develop the need of learning in the youth as a basic way to satisfy the world curiosity, explore their interest and prepare for further education by bringing Polish Nobel Prize winner profile, whom we owe so much. Children had the opportunity to see the Maria Skłodowska-Curie science career and learn about the features that a scientist should have.
The route, which traveled the students included a few stops-places specially connected with Polish noblest and lead through the route:

  • The University of Warsaw - START
  • The Square Street near Karowa Street – The Female Government Secondary School

In all of these places children had read a small note connected with a fact or place form the life of Maria Skłodowska-Curie and had to independently recognize the places using maps given to them at the beginning of the walk around. Animators passed information from the area of the elementary nature of information expanding knowledge of concepts related to Maria Skłodowska-Curie. Children have the opportunity to participate in chemical experiments and demonstrations relating with ionizing radiation, during which various types of radiation were covered with animators. It was also discussed how they can be used in various fields: medicine, archeology, industry etc. There was also talk about the work and activities of the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology. Children participated in these activities with great interest and commitment, as also participated in the discussion, sharing of consolidating information from the field of natural sciences and biography of the famous scientist.
