METODY DEFINITYWNE, MATERIAŁY ODNIESIENIA I TESTY BIEGŁOŚCI JAKO ELEMENTY SYSTEMU ZAPEWNIENIA JAKOŚCI W NIEORGANICZNEJ ANALIZIE ŚLADOWEJ

(Definitive methods, certified reference materials and proficiency tests as elements of quality assurance in inorganic trace analysis)

Halina Polkowska-Motrenko

Przedstawiono ideę metody definitywnej opartej na radiochemicznym wariancie neutronowej analizy aktywacyjnej i warunki, w jakich spełnia ona wymagania definicji podstawowych pomiarowych procedur odniesienia.

This paper presents the main topics discussed in a series of 22 papers published in the period of 1991-2008, by H. Polkowska-Motrenko and co-authors. The papers are devoted to the three most important elements of quality assurance systems applied in inorganic trace analysis, i.e. primary methods of measurements, certified reference materials as well as interlaboratory comparisons and proficiency tests. Neutron activation analysis was used as a key analytical tool for the development of the above-mentioned elements due to its unique features and position in inorganic trace analysis. Definitive radiochemical neutron activation methods have been described. It has been proved that such methods can meet the requirements of the definition of primary methods of measurements. The significance of this general idea was illustrated by the author on examples of elaboration and introduction into analytical practice of two original methods for the determination of Ni and Se in biological materials. The general strategy of preparation and certification of reference materials elaborated at the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (INCT), and the procedures based on neutron activation analysis applied for those purposes have been presented and critically discussed taking into account current trends in the scientific literature. Interlaboratory comparisons and an original approach to the proficiency testing schemes conducted at the INCT have been also presented.
