Installation of a target for conversion of accelerated electrons to X-rays extends technological abilities of electron accelerators due to better penetration of X photons inside the irradiated material.
In the present study the result of testing of a tantalum target with 5 MeV electron beam from an INCT linear accelerator are presented.
The Tl target system used in the experiments was constructed in the INCT.
Factors which influence target efficiency are discussed on the basis of the experiments done.
An operational test with high density food samples has proved the applicability of the target to food processing.
