The application of proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE) for elemental analysis of reference materials (AlCuMg-alloys) was studied. The elements of interest were Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu and Zn in aluminium matrix. A proton beam accelerated up to 2 MeV from a Van de Graaff accelerator was used to irradiate two series of reference materials. The method was tested and a good agreement was found between the PIXE measured contents and those found by chemical and instrumental methods of analysis.
