Evaluation of ecological and exploitational properties of coals for heat power stations
In the range of ecological properties, studies contain:
- determination of total sulphur contents in coal and ashes using the X-ray fluorescence method;
- determination of pyrite sulphur contents in coals by the Mössbauer effect method;
- determination of heavy metals and toxic elements contents in coals and ashes by the X-ray fluorescence method;
- determination of naturally occurring radioactive elements in coals and furnace waste materials using the gamma spectrometry method.
In the range of exploitational properties, studies concern:
- the sieve analysis of hard elements of coal mineral ballast;
- comparative determination of milling capacity of coal in dependence on amount of mineral ballast and mechanical properties of its components.
Applications:
- assessment of an influence of coal combustion on contamination of natural environment by heavy metals and toxic elements as a result of dust emission and wastes storage;
- assessment of usability of ash and slag as secondary materials for building industry,
- basing on ITB instruction No. 234; specific activities and index of summarized specific activity of naturally radioactive isotopes of 40K, 226Ra, 223Th have been determined;
- assessment of erosive properties of coals;
- a complex selection of coal sorts, especially for big urban agglomerations, in respect of
- ecological properties of coals and resulting furnace waste materials, and erosive properties of ballast contained in coal.
