Prof. Rajmund Dybczynski, Ph.D., D.Sc.   rdybczyn@orange.ichtj.waw.pl

R.Dybczynski Rajmund Stanisław Dybczyński was born in Warsaw in 1933. He obtained his M.Sc. in chemistry from Warsaw University in 1955, and started professional carrier in 1955 in the Institute of General Chemistry, Warsaw, working on physico-chemical methods of characterization of ion exchangers. In 1957 He joined the Institute of Nuclear Research (IBJ), Warsaw. His research interests encompassed development of new separation methods (ion exchange and extraction chromatography), thermodynamics and & kinetics of ion exchange reactions, investigations on the effect of resin cross-linking, temperature, and flow rate on the efficiency of chromatographic separations as well as determination of trace elements by neutron activation analysis (NAA). Dr Dybczyński spent several months as a visiting scientist in the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Moscow (1959-60), and in Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, N.Y., USA (1963-64). He obtained his Ph.D. (1963) and D.Sc. (1971) degrees from IBJ, Warsaw. Since 1965 he has been the Head of Laboratory for Radiometric Methods of Analysis and since 1967 held the position of "Docent" in this Institute. In 1987 he obtained the title of professor and since 1995 is the Head of Dept. of Analytical Chemistry in the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technolology. In the years 1975-80 Dr Dybczyński worked for IAEA in Vienna, being responsible for Analytical Quality Control Services, and participated later on in several Advisory Group or Consultant's Meetings organized by IAEA.
He initiated in Poland the work on elaboration of very accurate ("definitive") methods for the determination of selected elements by radiochemical NAA, and the action on preparation and certification of new reference materials for inorganic trace analysis.
Professor Dybczyński is the author or coauthor of over 150 scientific papers, 4 monographs, review articles, expert's reports, dictionary of chemical terminology in five languages, encyclopaedia entries etc.
Five Ph.D. theses and 2 M.Sc. diploma theses were performed under his supervision.
Professor Dybczyński has served as a member of Scientific Councils of several institutions. He is the member of Atomic Energy Council, member of the presidium of Committee for Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the chairman of the Commission for Inorganic Trace Analysis of this Committee. Professor Dybczyński was the regional editor of the international journal Geostandards Newsletter and is now the regional editor of Polish journal Chemia Analityczna and of international: Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry.
He is the recipient of awards granted by the State Council for Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1963 and 1969), Polish Chemical Society (1963), National Atomic Energy Agency (1982) and Minister of Science, Higher Education and Technology (1983). In 2001 Polish Chemical Society awarded Prof. Dybczyński with Wiktor Kemula medal “for outstanding scientific achievements”.
Prof. Dybczyński was the coorganizer and a member of scientific committees of many domestic and international conferences and delivered several plenary lectures on these meetings. The works of Dr Dybczyński's group were reviewed in the Journal of Radioanalytical Chemistry (1974), Rare Earth Information Centre News (1974) and Japanese Journal Isotope News (1977).
